Doily Table Numbers

For Ange's wedding we wanted something "girly" and sweet, but also economical for the centerpieces. We came up with a way to give the centerpiece height and colour with our doily table numbers. Here's what we did:

Materials:
paper doilies
heavyweight paper in a coordinating colour
glue stick
wooden dowels
black marker
printed numbers

First, select a size of paper doily suitable for your arrangement. Make sure it doesn't overwhelm the rest of the arrangement.

Next, print out table numbers in a font that you like onto plain white paper. Lay the paper doily over the printout and trace the number with a black fine tip marker. Make sure the number is centered in the middle of the doily. For each table number make two doilies. For something a bit different, try spelling out the number.

From heavyweight paper cut our circles slightly larger than the size of the doily. You may want to trace them using a bowl or use a circle cutter to cut them out.  Cut out two circles for each table number.

Turn the doily over and use glue stick to completely cover the back of the doily. Make sure you go all the way to the edges! Align the doily in the center of the circle and press firmly to affix the doily.

Use glue stick to cover the back of the heavyweight paper, leaving a small slit for the wooden dowel. Make sure you align the numbers so that they will be upright when you insert the dowel. Stick the two circles together, leaving an unglued area for the dowel.

Insert the dowel into the slit.  Insert the other end of the dowel into your centerpiece.

We used large urns filled with newspaper to support the dowel, with blown, dyed eggs for the top.

That's it!!!
